So many yards are still using invasive buckthorn as a yard hedge. Cut that crap down and replace it with elderberry. It's a healthy native plant and even better, extremely good for our bodies. There is so much you can do with them, and with the same or more likely, less, maintenance as a buckthorn hedge.
